On May 31, 2019, at the meeting of the Council D 55.051.02,Yury Yuryevich Volk, assistant of the Department of Applied Mathematics and Complex Systems Modeling, successfully defended his dissertation work on the theme «Multiharmonic two-stream superheterodyne FELs with helical electron beams» for the degree of candidate of physical and mathematical sciences (scientific advisor – Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, Professor Alexander V. Lysenko).

March 28-29, 2019, the All-Ukrainian competition of student research papers was held in the fields of knowledge and specialties. One of the winners in the specialty "Physics and Astronomy" was a student of Sumy State University, PMm-81 group, – Sukhomlin Maxim Igorevich. His work on the topic “Stochastic model of a self-similar regime of ice surface softening during friction” was awarded a diploma of III degree (supervisor - Professor of the Applied Mathematics and Complex Systems Modeling Department at SSU, Oleksii V. Khomenko ).

March 26, 2019 on the basis of the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology (ElIT) Sumy State University held the Olympiad on programming among students. The first prizes were taken by students of the specialty "Applied Mathematics":

the first result – Pilguy Irina (gr. PM-61, specialty “Applied Mathematics”);

second result – Lyutyi Anton (gr. PM-71, specialty "Applied Mathematics");

On November 21-23, 2018, the III International Forum “INNOVATION MARKET” was held at the International Exhibition Center in Kiev, which was attended by members of the Department of Applied Mathematics and Complex Systems Modeling. At this forum, Igor Vladimirovich Koplyk, associate professor of the AM&CSM department, presented the results of the work on the theme “Planning system by artillery unit the fire damage of enemy ”, which is carried out by the State order.

On September 28, 2018, at the meeting of the Council D 55.051.02, Badalyan Anna Yuryevna, Assistant of the Department of Applied Mathematics and Complex Systems Modeling, successfully defended her dissertation work on the theme «Formation and regimes of the motion of nanoparticle ensembles within the framework of statistical theory» for the degree of candidate of physical and mathematical sciences (scientific advisor – Yushchenko Olga Vladimirovna).

From the 1st to the 9th of August, 2018, the International Congress of Mathematicians took place in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), which is one of the most influential scientific events in the field of mathematics in the world and comprehensively covers theoretical and applied aspects of modern mathematics. This year, 3080 mathematicians from 114 countries have joined in. The Congress was organized by the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mathematics (Instituto de Matemática Pura e Aplicada, IMPA) and the Brazilian Mathematical Society (Sociedade Brasileira de Matemática, SBM).

In accordance with the Decree of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine «About the assignment in 2018 year nominal scholarships of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for the most talented young scientists», Professor of the Department of Applied Mathematics and Complex Systems Modeling – I. A. Lyashenko – received a personal scholarship for 2018 y. Such a scholarship was awarded 30th talented young scientists of Ukraine.

On August 29-31 2017, the International Conference IEEE Microwaves, Radar and Remote Sensing Symposium (MRRS-2017) took place at the National Aviation University (Kyiv). Аbout 50 works from 19 countries were presented at the conference. The work "Plural Three-Wave Resonances of Space Charge Wave Harmonics in Transit Section of Klystron-type Two-Stream FEL with Helical Electron Beam", presented by postgraduate student Iurii Volk (supervisor – Dr.Sc. Alexander Lysenko) was awarded the third prize of the European Microwave Association.

On June 17-18, 2014 the first defence of the master’s qualification works, speciality "Applied Mathematics" was held. Olena O. Strelnykova, Doctor of Engineering Sciences, leading researcher of A.N. Podgorny Institute for Mechanical Engineering Problems (Kharkiv), the head of State Examination Commission (SEC), expressed satisfaction with the quality of works and the variety of topics.

Sixteen graduating students got a high marks for the presentation of research papers. Five Master's qualification works were presented in English.

Since 2014 the Department of Applied and Computational Mathematics (A&CM) Sumy State University (SSU) offers Master’s degree programmer of the qualification "Applied programmer".

In June 2014 there was initial accreditation of the specialty "Applied Mathematics" by educational-qualificational level (EQL) Master.
