On February 9, 2024, on the basis of the Sumy State University congress center, Elit-Quiz was held - an intellectual team game that provides answers to questions from various fields of human activity (music, cinema, history, cooking, aviation, etc.). More than 100 participants (16 teams) took part in it. The event is unique in that it brought together students, teachers, and employees of the Faculty of ElIT (in the photo students and teachers of the AM&CSM Department).
On December 22, 2023, the traditional event "Career Day in IT: 2023" took place on the basis of the Sumy State University Congress Center, which this year was held in a mixed format. Representative of the Expert Council of Employers of specialty 113 "Applied Mathematics" - Oleksandr ROT-SEROV, - Regional and Project Manager of PortaOne, contractor of PortaOne, Inc.Canada, as well as a member of the Working Project Group of specialty 113 "Applied Mathematics" - Oleh Nesterov, Director of LLC "MINDKEY", took an active part in the meeting with students.
On December 22, 2023, the Department of Applied Mathematics and Modeling of Complex Systems held a meeting of the examination commission for the defense of qualifying theses of the master's level educational and professional program "Data Science and Modeling of Complex Systems". All winners of the PM.m-21 group successfully defended their qualifying papers.
By order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Yulia Rozgon, a student of the Faculty of ElIT, specialty 113 "Applied Mathematics", was awarded a scholarship of the President of Ukraine for the 1st semester of 2023/2024 for excellent studies, scientific activity and public work.
From the first year of study, Julia has shown outstanding leadership potential, holding the position of head of her study group. She is actively engaged in mass cultural activities, is an active, serious and talented person who successfully combines educational, scientific, public and cultural activities. Dispersal Julia shows perseverance and self-discipline in all her efforts.
May 25, 2023 representatives of the Scientific Research Institute of Geodesy and Cartography, namely Serhiy Bezshapkin, Igor Vasiliev and Dmytro Bondarenko, held an open lecture for students of the 3rd year of the educational program "Data Science and Modeling of Complex Systems" from the discipline "Mathematics of Machine Learning" on the topic "The use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies for tasks of monitoring the state of traffic management". The lecturers familiarized the audience with examples of practical use of geo-information technologies and AI in the field of road traffic organization and safety in the locality.
On March 20, 2023, a representative of Custom PC Software (CPCS) - a leading specialist with many years of experience in working with big data Savchenko Valery - gave a lecture to students of specialty 113 "Applied Mathematics" of the educational program "Data Science and Modeling of Complex Systems" of the second level of higher education at topic: "Data visualization. Visualization libraries: MatPlotLib, Seaborn, Bokeh", as part of the study of the discipline "Python language for big data: Numpy, Matplotlib, Scikitlearn, Pandas".
From September 12, 2022, the representative of the company Custom PC Software (CPCS) Ihor Knyaz at the department of AM&CSM conducts a course of lectures within the framework of the study of the discipline "Neural network modeling" specialty 113 "Applied mathematics" of the educational program "Data science and modeling of complex systems". The course examines different types of architecture of artificial neural networks, methods of their construction, training and modeling, the possibilities of their application to solve the tasks of pattern recognition, data clustering, associative (contextual) search, approximation of the function of many variables, forecasting, optimization and other tasks that belong to the class of those that are difficult to formalize.
Sumy State University entered the TOP-3 of the academic ranking of higher education institutions of Ukraine "TOP-200 Ukraine-2020", following only the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” and Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Last year SumDU took the sixth place in the general ranking of HEIs and the third among classical universities following Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and the V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.
In accordance with Decree No. 242/2019-rp of the President of Ukraine “On the awarding grants of the President of Ukraine for the support the research of young scientists for 2019” doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, professor of the Applied Mathematics and Complex Systems Modeling Department, Iakov A. Lyashenko, a grant was provided for the study “Transitional mode between adhesion and sliding in tangential dynamic contact for normal and gradient materials”.
Since September, 2019, a new Master program "Data Science and Complex Systems Modeling" has been launched at the Applied Mathematics and Complex Systems Modeling Department in the framework of the specialty “Applied Mathematics”.
The main focus of the program is on the training of specialists in such areas as Machine Learning, Big Data, Data Analytics, etc. The program is designed for 1 year and 4 months of study.
